Is there a definite relationship between the color of Kratom extracts and their purity?
Not necessarily. In fact, it's often quite intriguing to discover that if we retain the natural color, high-purity MIT (Mitragynine) may even exhibit a darker hue than Kratom powder or extracts with lower alkaloid content. Extracts with 98% purity can sometimes appear almost black. Why is this the case?
MIT is naturally occurring in the plant. When we extract and purify it from the myriad of components, the natural color is also concentrated. Indeed, we could lighten the color through bleaching processes, but there's no need for that regarding the active components. Such procedures could even lead to the loss of some compounds. Since MIT is physically purified from the plant, its color—whatever it may be—is naturally formed and safe to use without concern.
Interestingly, among the various active components in Kratom, the purified 7-OH MIT (7-Hydroxymitragynine) is a beautiful golden yellow. Whether incorporated into food, or crafted into gummies, patches, or strips, this unique golden hue is quite appealing and doesn't require any special removal of its color.
